Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel announced on October 17 that it plans to launch its IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) service in India by year-end 2007.

Currently, the project is still pending regulatory approval from the government.

In an Asia Express dated August 31, 2007, Bharti Airtel was reported to have selected Chinese UTStarcom as its IPTV infrastructure supplier. According to a recent report by the Economic Times of India, Bharti's IPTV service will initially cover cities including Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region) - comprising Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, and Ghaziabad. Following the successful rollout in these regions, the company plans to expand its triple play service to offer pan-India coverage.

To date, the state-run telecom operators MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam) and BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam) have launched IPTV services in several Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune. Aside from Bharti, Reliance also plans to deliver its IPTV service soon.
